Only traditional materials are used in the sword’s fittings. The Tsuba (guard), Fuchi (collar), and Kashira (pommel), are finely crafted from black iron. The Habaki (blade collar), is hand made from polished brass and each hilt is covered in Samé (ray skin) and tightly wrapped in the traditional style with black cord. A beautiful brass Menuki ( a small, ornamental sculpture inserted between the ray skin and the cord wrappings on the handle) enhances the sword’s aesthetic appearance and makes for a sword that is as traditional looking as possible. The Dragonfly Series swords feature thicker, wider and heavier blades, which mirror the Imperial Series in respect to heat treatment, polish, quality and attention to detail, but with a few differences. Notable are the distinctive teal-green silk cord wrap and black ray skin on the handles and black iron furniture bearing the Dragonfly motif. The polished blades are more strongly curved than the Imperial series and end in a long "irse leaf" point for maximum cutting and slashing potential. The sword also comes with two protective bags. There is a blue cotton travel bag and a highly decorative display bag that's made from the finest heavy silk metallic brocade. Black lacquered wood scabbard.
